- Grade1: (mild) In days grade the ligament is only stretched not torn. Due to this there may be some discomfort or swelling but it usually resolves quickly.
- Grade2 : (Moderate) in this grade the ligament is partially teared. Due to this there will be more pain more swelling and difficulty in walking.
- Grade3 : (severe) in this great the ligament is completely teared. Due to this there will be the significant pain swelling difficulty in walking and instability of ankle joint.
Recovery and rehabilitation:
the recovery and rehab of ankle pain due to ankle sprain depend on its severity but there are some basic principles for rehab.
POLICE and PRICE protocol
- Protection: it means to prevent from the further injury. For prevention we can immobilise the injured area by using different means of protection like brace, splint etc.
- Rest: In the initial stage of injury rest is the most essential thing. Stop the weight bearing on injured leg.
- Ice: apply ice on the injured area which can help to reduce the swelling and reduce the pain.
- Compression: To minimise the swelling wrap a compression bandage on the injured area which will also provide the support.
- Elevation: elevate the injured ankle above the heart level which help in reducing their swelling by allowing the access flutes to move away from that area and not accumulating there.
